Next month our Asia-Pacific team will hold a Methods Series Webinar.
Qualitative research within the Operations and Supply Chain scholarly community has become synonymous with positivist case study research more broadly. However, there are a plethora of other qualitative approaches (e.g., action research, processual analysis, ethnography and discourse analysis) to name a few that are widely accepted across other management domains. These approaches offer considerable potential for our discipline both from a theoretical standpoint and generating strong practical outcomes. For example, we know very little about the sustainability problems that emanate at the lower tiers of the supply chain. These regions may be located in conflict zones and the underlying socio-economic, gender, cultural and linguistic issues that surface require a deeper immersion in the field.

In this Webinar, we draw on experiences of senior scholars from both outside our discipline as well as scholars pursuing alternative qualitative methodologies within our discipline. Panelists will draw on their experience of engaging in different contexts, collecting different forms of data and crafting an engaging narrative. They will also caution how to avoid falling into the trap of blind application of templates in qualitative research that may stifle creativity and innovation.
